Social distancing on patio. Fish with sweet potato fries , excellent.
Why the bad reviews. My wife and I have went a few times over the years. My wife as a vegetarian was aloud to pretty much create her own meal with no hesitation from the kitchen or waitress. I myself have had many items on the menu. They have my top favourite 5 wings. I’d give them a 9.5 out of 10, which my favourite is a 9.6. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to us. We have since brought the kids and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves too. Thank you J.Suess
After driving by the Fool and Flagon for years, we decided to give them a try. We were in the area anyway for shopping at the Wholesale Club so we treated ourselves. I had the crab cakes and they were simply delicious. I made the mistake of getting the sweet potato fries instead of the regular fries though, and I wasn't a fan of those. They were well prepared, but sweet potato fries apparently aren't my cup of tea. My husband had the burger and he said it was very good as well, and our son went for the haddock and chips. He enjoyed his meal as well. The next time we're in the area close to lunchtime we will definitely return!
So where do I begin? When we walked through the door the girl standing behind the bar just looked at us and said nothing. It was after we saw the sign by the door we knew we were to just seat ourselves. At least a hello or welcome would have been nice! We then sat down to find the table had not been cleaned from the last people sitting there, bits of food all over it. That should have been our first indication to get the heck out of there. The waitress came to take our order and then left. After about 25 minutes she finally returned with our meals. My fiance had ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and a greek salad. The salad appeared to be going brown and was somewhat limp. The wrap was way over sauced and un-enjoyable. I ordered the bangers and mash which was not even edible. It consisted of a mound of grey mashed potatoes covered with what I thought at the time was coleslaw but later found out it was actually onions which were obviously so old and began to ferment!!!!! All of that surrounded by maybe a whole can of dried out corn. When I mentioned this to the waitress she stated she gave us a discount on the bill for it. When the bill came we found out the discount was only $1.20 hahaha which means I still paid over $10.00 for a meal I couldn't even eat. We eat out at least once a week if not more in Hamilton and have tried many different places. We will NEVER return to this restaurant and we suggest that you save your money and never go there to begin with!!!!!!
This had to have been the worst place that I have ever been to. It took forever to get service and when we did she was not really that great. I ordered something that was on the "Internet menu" that we looked up ahead of time and was informed that they don't have a website. When I pointed out that I used their website for their phone number to call and make reservations all I got was a dirty look and a poor excuse. So they didn't have the ribs we wanted that were advertised on the mysterious Internet menu. When the food came about half of it was either wrong or not cooked the way we wanted it. I will never set foot in that place again!
I met a friend for a couple drinks on a Sunday afternoon and do some catching up. We ended up staying for awhile. The service was fantastic and for a couple of dudes just having a some drinks, ended up having dinner and taking home food for each of our girlfriends.Everything was fantastic from the service to the food and the hole experience. We will be returning sooner rather then later, you can bet on it !!!!!Best wings and burgers in town!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a fan of the patio which is nice and relaxed, despite some noisy traffic. The food is good (some feathers on the wings which is bound to happen sometimes), portioned well and reasonably priced. Our server was very nice but she wasn't very good at her job as members of our group had to go inside to order our first round, 10 minutes later for menus and, 10 minutes after that to have someone take our order :S.
it started off bad the minute we walked in the door, everyone has an opinion however, the language from the left side was not what I needed to hear. I should have left then. Gin & Tonic with flat tonic and a lime that was left over from last week, they "replaced" it with another flat tonic, possible the tonic went flat, but to get the glare from behind the bar for sending it back. Okay the draft beer was good.we ordered fish and chips each, they bring us 1 plate with 2 pieces of fish a container of mayo with a few pieces of relish (saying this is tartar sauce), the coleslaw was 1/2" chunks of cabbage and some shredded carrot with more mayo. hmmmm just what I always wanted a mouthful of mayo on my fish. the floors were filthy with food, garbage, while paying I noticed the floor behind the barot was not clean either. Now I understand why there was an empty parking lot....
Everytime Im in the area I have to go here to eat. They have by far the best Quesdilla I have had in Hamilton. It comes very close to the real deal from Southern California. And the Guacamole they have its the best I have ever had. My daughter enjoys the kids menu and hey if you make a kid happy you are alright in my books. If ANYone from the Fool & Flagon happens to read this, what do you make your guacamole with I would love the recipe for it.
Im so surprised by the few bad reviews for this place! Ive been coming here for years, and it just seems to be getting better and better. Thankfully it seems like there is new management (blond girl with all the tattoos...Audrey i think?), and lots of changes to the menu. Almost everything seems to be homemade now, and thank god for fresh cut fries!!! The food is always great, and have rarely had anything negative to say about it. The staff seem to have a great relationship with all the regulars, and even though we aren't regular "bar-flies", they always remember our usual drink orders as soon as we come in. Misty, Bailey and Audrey are always great! Best pint of guinness in town! And most importantly, the buffalo chicken poutine is out of this world... Coming back again and again!
I ordered off the favorites menu thinking that I would be safe! I ordered the chicken pot pie... omg! The stuff that came out to my table can barely be called food! The actual pie was in a small oven safe oval bowl (very small mind you) There was a crust on the top of the pie that couldn't be cut into by a knife it was so leathery. The worst part was underneath the crust it was a milky soup that could not be eaten with a fork and no spoon was provided. (but I should have to use a spoon to eat this either) It was disgusting and it smelled like it had gone rancid. After eating good pot pie elsewhere you know when its good or bad and this was clearly BAD. The carrots that accompanied my meal were so old and dry they were WHITE! The mashes potatoes were so old they had grown a skin on them. The meal was one of the worst I have ever experienced. There was NOTHING on the plate I was willing to eat!!! We were seated in a corner and wait staff hardly ever walked by and I tried in vein to flag someone down. No luck, so I went to the bar and explained that there was no way I was going to eat the slop that was put in front of me. A waitress was sent to my table and I had to explain the same thing to her as I had already told the person behind the bar. Then the waitress sent the manager over to my table and for the 3rd time I had to explain why the food in front of me was fit for a green bin! I was disgusted by the food and even more disgusted with the lack of service. By the time everything was sorted out my date had finished his food and I still had nothing fit to eat! We didn't have to pay for the chicken pot pie and my second attempt at food was discounted. By the way my second try was wings and they were just as bad, it is rather disgusting that the pin feathers on wings were left for consumption. Not a very good place to eat!
While it has been around for a while, there have been exstensive menu changes......many more homemade dishes, such as soups, meatloaf and fresh cut fries. Best Wings ever, 50 + different sauces to choose from . Definitely coming back!
Bailey is the best! She is a fabulous waitress, remembers the regulars and their orders. The food is great and the service is second to none.
Burnt! Burnt! Burnt! is what must be said about my experience at the Fool and Flagon. We ordered two Chicken Breast Meals and a kids meal for my two young children to share. Three of the 4 half sized chicken breasts were very black, all of the fries were burnt to the point that I had to ask them to make more and the hamburger in the kids meal was also burnt. The ketchup was turning into a fine wine. I can only assume that is because they keep adding to the old ketchup bottles and never clean them to put fresh ketchup in. The service was pleasant and somewhat slow, considdering there was only one table of 5 and us in the whole restaurant. They finally brought us fresh unburnt fries which were okay. I have to say my favourite part of the whole meal was the rice pilaf which had just the perfect amount of flavour. Aside from the burntness, the chicken had a nice flavour. The atmosphere was okay and the restaurant and bathroom were very clean. The waitresses brought crayons and paper to keep the kids busy while waiting for the food. Overall, I was not impressed and will probably not go there again.
I have been in this place occasionally over the years, its a friendly place, food when a certain dark haired lady cooks(wish I knew her name) is always great.Seems to be a great camaraderie amongst regulars..it is a fun place. Seems to be some changes made lately, Im not sure how they work it there , but it seems to be two managers, one a male one a dark haired female. Both are hard to find on busy nights..if you can find them at all. What has happened to this place? Last time a year ago I visited 2 blonde girls had no problem handling dozens and dozens of staff. Waited almost 20 minutes for our first drafts while the food orders etc were being taken care of by the dark haired girl. The food came about 20 minutes after that..not bad.. probably wont go back.
i have always had great service on Monday lunches with our favourite waitress( dark haired with glasses, misty?) she is always smiling and great to talk to, i would go again and again....
waited 30 minutes for lunch off the express menu. Not too many people in restaurant. Spoke with manager and she argued with me stating the lunch took 25 not 30 minutes, way too long to make fish and chips and a hamburg. Stated they were very busy, I didn't see another person walk in the door, or anyone being served since I walked in. Will not be back, and will spread the news.
food is alwaysw great.. on wed 4$ Lbs of wings tons of flavors great place to go to
The waitresses were spending more time talking to each other than serving customers. the table beside us walked out and the female manager thought it was funny, if it were not for the fact that we were really hungery and late for a show we would have walked out as well
Service always sucks. It is hard to hold a $20 at the bar and wait for 10 minutes just to get one drink. Always get 2 at a time if not more.... Friends had problems just paying their tab at the end of the night.... very bad service even on a slow night. only reason i go back is friends like the kareoke
