I am 72 yr. old lady A&W is my favorite hamburger place. I miss the old A&W song. EVERY restaurant I go to I sing it to the employees. I know it by heart. They say they have never heard it before and love it. I remember in the 60s as a teen how they would bring your order on a tray on roller skates and hang the tray on the side of your car. I realize I didn’t notice the voice calling out the orders over the intercom today. Maybe they have done away with that. I hope so. They greeted us first by opening the door for us, checked on us during our meal to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and thanked us at the end for coming and opened the door for us when we were done. They have a good standard menu. My friend loves her BC beef burger and I decided to try the ribs for a change. It was fine and served with coleslaw and potato salad. Lots of booth seating or tables. Not loud so you can hear yourself talk except for the odd child being a little noisy. The service was good especially if you go early evening when not busy just yet. We recently moved to Surrey so we were excited when we heard about this restaurant in our area and thought we'd give it a try. Oddly, we saw some gift certificates for it at Holt. We paid about $75 for $100 in gift certificates, so it seemed like a great way to get a discount on dinner. Dinner was great - we took the advice of friends and both had tenderloin steak that came with amazing garlic mashed potatoes - yummmm!!! I had a fantastic martini on recommendation of our server - it was a sour apple. I find some restaurants have watered down martinis, but this one definitely wasn't - it was just perfect. Our service was just good. Not terrible, but certainly not close to downtown high-end restaurant quality the night we were there. Having said that... this isn't a downtown high end restaurant - so if you go in with the right expectations, its a great night out. We'll definitely be back... and if I see Holt gift certificates again, I'll be picking them up. You might want to ensure you make a reservation too. Lire plus
